“The Runners of Hamburg” Hugill writes that this Plattdeutsch shanty “is in the Hamborg sailor’s dialect.” Well, I don’t know about my pronunciation, however — I think maybe I am inadvertently doing some things like Standard German…but I suspect a lot of German singers do the same if Plattdeutsch is not their native dialect. Chanty-aficionados will immediately recognize this as a take on the halyard chanty known in English as “Roll the Cotton Down.” www.youtube.com I believe one will find that practically all of the non-English language *halyard* chanties are based on English chanties. My assertion is that the halyard form is native to the chanty genre, and chanties are native to America…which makes it unlikely that you’d have any completely original ones from elsewhere. This has a weak narrative, but the theme is about sailors arriving in Hamburg and availing of the landsharks’ and merchants’ services. The familiar chorus of “Roll the Cotton Down” is replaced here with “Oh, Kööm, un Beer for mi!”

By Revolution : How can I make my singing voice sound less boring? I’m in choir, take singing lessons and I’m in the musical coming up at my highschool. I enjoy singing very much, however when I sing normal songs like “I miss you” by Blink-182 I feel like I sound so bland, dull and boring.
